The iconic BT Tower in London is set to undergo a transformation as it gets sold to MCR Hotels for £275 million ($347 million). The tower, which has served as a key site for network operations, will now be repurposed into a hotel.
A New Chapter for an Icon
BT Group announced the sale of the historic landmark, citing that network operations have been relocated elsewhere. The removal of microwave aerials over a decade ago marked the shift in operations away from the tower.
Transformation Process
The payment for the sale will be staggered over several years to align with the gradual removal of BT Group equipment from the building. The final installment will be made upon the completion of the purchase.
MCR Hotels Takes the Reigns
MCR Hotels, known for properties like The High Line Hotel and TWA hotels, will be leading the transformation. CEO Tyler Morse expressed excitement about the project, stating, “We are proud to preserve this beloved building and will work to develop proposals to tell its story as an iconic hotel, opening its doors for generations to enjoy.”
With this transition, the BT Tower is poised to embark on a new journey as a hospitality destination, preserving its legacy while creating new memories for future guests.
