Former President Donald Trump criticizes House Republicans’ pick for speaker

Former President Donald Trump expressed his disdain for the new choice for speaker among House Republicans, Representative Tom Emmer. Trump had initially stated that he would avoid getting involved in the ongoing struggle that has left the House in a state of uncertainty for the past three weeks.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump denounced the idea of voting for a “Globalist RINO” like Tom Emmer, using the acronym that stands for “Republican in name only.” Emmer, a Republican from Minnesota, had recently secured the nomination as the House GOP’s candidate for speaker. However, it remains uncertain whether he can garner enough votes to win a majority in a future House floor vote, as no date has been set for this yet.

Initially, Trump had thrown his support behind Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio. However, his fellow Republicans withdrew their backing after Jordan failed to win the necessary support on the House floor.

Emmer’s decision to certify the results of the 2020 election, which Trump has misleadingly claimed were fraudulent, may have contributed to Trump’s disapproval. Additionally, Emmer is known for his advocacy of cryptocurrency.

Despite reports of a conversation between Trump and Emmer on Saturday, it appears that the former president’s opinion remained unchanged. Trump expressed doubt regarding Emmer’s loyalty to him, stating that while Emmer now claims to be Pro-Trump, it is difficult to ascertain his true allegiance.
