The U.K. stock market closed on a positive note on Friday, with the FTSE 100 Index increasing by 1.01% to reach 7,529.35.
Top Gainers
Among the constituents of the FTSE 100, general mining company Anglo American PLC saw the largest increase in share price, climbing by 7.89%. Non-ferrous metals firm Antofagasta PLC and general mining company Rio Tinto PLC also performed well, with their shares rising by 6.18% and 3.70% respectively.
Other Notable Gains
Glencore PLC, a general mining company, and air freight business International Distribution Services PLC secured spots in the top five largest gainers as their stocks climbed by 3.60% and 3.30% respectively.
Top Losers
On the other hand, Tesco PLC, a food retail company, experienced the largest decrease among FTSE 100 constituents, with shares declining by 2.17% on Friday. Publishing firm Pearson PLC and food retail company Ocado Group PLC also saw a decrease in their share prices, with declines of 1.88% and 0.97% respectively.
Other Decliners
Investment Advisors companies Hargreaves Lansdown PLC and Legal & General Group PLC rounded out the top five largest decliners as their stocks shed 0.86% and 0.78% respectively.
Currency and Commodity Updates
The pound strengthened against the dollar, rising by 0.45% to $1.2681. It also gained 0.56% against the euro, reaching €1.1658. Brent crude increased by 0.3% to $81.08, while the yield on the 10-year gilt fell by 3.720 basis points to 4.138%.
